Pleated Front Tank Top- Kwik Sew K3691

Pleated Front Tank Top- Kwik Sew K3691

After doing my paper doll exercise in finding “holes” in the wardrobe plan, I decided that I would use the 1 yard rayon crepe remnant I had from my Butterick 6677 dress. Even though that fabric was kind of hard to sew, I thought it had the right amount of drape. Besides, what was I going to do with that 1 yard of fabric?!

Kwik Sew 3691 was chosen mainly because I had a lot of color and prints going on, so it really needed something simple. Sure I could have sewn a boring tank top. But I searched my existing closet with RTW (ready to wear) items for ideas. Sometimes the answer is right there! I found a green top with the look I needed. I think the pleats are so sophisticated and makes it look more dressy than a regular old tank top.  After scouring the web, I found Kwik Sew K3691 which looked almost EXACTLY the same. I ordered it and it ended up being another quick sew win from Kwik Sew.

Not bad huh? Green top probably cost me about $45. My homemade one about $12.

I will definitely sew this pattern again in a woven fabric. The pleats are just so sharp and they need to be shown off. I am thinking a cotton blend or linen would be perfect next time around. Maybe even add sleeves next time.
